A consultant surgeon at Airedale Hospital is celebrating after raising £4,000 for a hospital he plans to visit in India.
Ian Hutchinson, his wife Lyn and two friends raised £2,000 after pounding the streets of Edinburgh in a five kilometre fun run round Arthur's Seat last weekend. Their money will be matched by BUPA.
Mr Hutchinson, 55, said: "It was a thoroughly exhilarating but exhausting day, it is easier to do surgery."
The money will be used for the Duncan Hospital, which is run by Christian Mission at Raxaul in north east India.
In March, Mr Hutchinson is making a return three-week trip with his wife and four supporters and will carry out operations on trauma patients and those with abdominal problems.
Since his last visit in 2003, Mr Hutchinson has paid to bring over a medical team from the Duncan Hospital to receive more surgical training in Britain.
Now he wants to see exactly what help and support the hospital needs.
