Police talked down a man who had sat on the edge of a bridge over the Aire Valley trunk road in Bingley late last night.
Police sealed off the scene, at Leonard Street, shortly after 11pm, while a sergeant negotiated with the man, who police said had mental health issues.
Firefighters from Shipley and paramedics stood by at the scene.
A Bradford police spokesman said: “We got a report that the man was sat on the edge of the bridge.
“We closed the road and, after speaking to him for about an hour, he was persuaded to come off the bridge.
“He was sectioned under the Mental Health Act and taken to Airedale General Hospital.”
