Fire, police and ambulance crews were called to a sheltered housing complex in Bradford after a fire broke out this morning.

An aerial ladder was used by firefighters to tackle the blaze at Dove Court in Barkerend.

A large section of the roof has been destroyed.

Staff say the fire alarm sounded at 9.10am.

A total of 11 fire engines and six police cars and six ambulances and paramedic response teams were called to the scene.

A crowd of people have gathered at Bolton Street watching teams of firefighters work to bring people out of the building.

New Otley Road has been cordoned off at its junction with Barkerend Road.

Some of the rescued residents could be seen sitting on chairs at the bottom of Bolton Street.

Structural engineers have been called in to examine the building.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Hanover Housing Association, which manages Dove Court, confirmed all residents and staff got out safely.
