A student crashed her father’s Land Rover into a car leaving the driver badly injured when she lost control overtaking a lorry, Skipton magistrates heard yesterday.
Laura Jones, 25, of Hodgson Fold, Addingham, had been driving to college in Harrogate when she caused the crash on the A59 at Beamsley on November 20.
The court heard she just managed to squeeze in between the lorry and an articulated wagon coming the other way during the overtaking manoeuvre but then lost control and barrelled into the car whose male driver suffered a shattered wrist, broken arm and badly sprained ankle.
Jones, who had admitted driving without due care and attention, was banned from driving for four months and fined £400.
Magistrate David Uffindall said: “At this time in the morning, it would have been busy and we see people on it frankly doing very serious things. We see that it was a misjudgment, but it was serious.”
