Shipley-based painting, decorating and specialist coating contractor Bagnalls are entered into a ground-breaking partnership enabling its staff to show proof of their competence when working on jobs across the UK.

Bagnalls is working with Reset Certification Scheme Ltd, the competence management solutions provider, and issued its staff with Reset cards The firm came across Reset when asked to join the scheme by client Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and originally had only a handful of cardholders. After receiving requests from other clients for more of their employees to join Reset, Bagnalls increased their number of cardholders, which resulted in improved business with those clients.

Bagnalls has now rolled out the scheme across its trade tradesmen, who are all directly employed by the firm.

It enables Bagnalls to demonstrate to all clients people’s skills, qualifications and experience as well as view their accreditation certificates on-screen through Reset’s live verification portal which maintains updated information on skills and competencies.

Reset said the card had rewritten the rulebook for the way in which the skills and qualifications of contract workers are checked and verified and has been adopted by many leading organisations, including numerous NHS Trusts, as well as sites in the education, airport and manufacturing sectors.

Bagnalls is the first national contractor to embrace Reset David Sunderland, Bagnalls group technical and training manager, said: “As a contractor, we have a commitment to continuously invest in the long-term training and development of our employees. The automated notification system provided by Reset provides an ideal training tracker, by alerting us with timely reminders of when individuals’ competencies are expiring.

“It allows us to schedule the required training in line with our work schedule to ensure that we continue to deliver high levels of customer service with a skilled and competent workforce.”

Gary Duce, Reset managing director, added: “While Bagnalls are the first national contractor to provide all their operatives with Reset cards, Reset is increasingly gaining momentum with both clients and contractors as organisations are fast recognising the benefits to them of our unique verification platform.”
