Bomb disposal experts have given the all-clear following a bomb scare in Braithwaite, Keighley.
Police have reopened Braithwaite Road after taking advice from Army specialists at Catterick.
Residents of around eight houses in Braithwaite Road, who evacuated early this morning, have now been allowed to return home.
The bomb team gave the all-clear after examining photographs of the object that were sent to Catterick by Keighley police.
The team is expected to arrive in Braithwaite soon to remove the object from the garden where it was found.
A police spokesman said that reports were received at 6.48am about what appeared to be a Second World War shell in the garden.
Police cordoned off Braithwaite Road in the Bankfield Avenue area, and ambulances were placed on standby.
The spokesman said: “Seven or eight houses were initially evacuated.
The cordon is now down and the road has reopened, and people have been allowed to return to their houses.”
“The bomb disposal team are coming down to collect the object and they are expected to arrive shortly.
“We sent photographs to them so they could do an assessment, and they deemed the object wasn’t hazardous.”
