A man of 52 was being quizzed by detectives last night about an alleged ‘road rage’ incident which left another man with a fractured skull.

Police said a dispute took place at traffic lights in Smiddles Lane at the junction with Manchester Road, Bradford, at about 11.30pm on Friday, when a red Volkswagen Golf ran into the back of a blue Vauxhall Zafira, which was stationary at the lights, causing minor damage.

An argument took place outside the vehicles between the driver of the Golf and a passenger in the Zafira.

It resulted in the Zafira passenger, a 38-year-old man, falling backwards and hitting his head on the road.

The injured man is being treated at Leeds General Infirmary.

Yesterday he was described as being in a serious condition, though his injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.

Detective Inspector Ben McDonald, of Bradford District CID, said: “We are keen to speak to anyone who either witnessed this collision or what happened afterwards.”

The man was arrested yesterday. He was being held for questioning at Trafalgar House police station in Bradford.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call Bradford District CID on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
