Children celebrate heritage of Saltaire
Updated 7:52pm Friday 11th April 2014 in News
All the children at Saltaire Primary School have celebrated World Heritage by learning about international sites which share the same special status as the model village of Saltaire.
Some 400 youngsters spent the run up to Easter studying The Pyramids in Egypt, the Great Barrier Reef and the Parthenon in Athens, which all enjoy the same status.
Head teacher Sally Stoker said: “We wanted the children to realise that Saltaire is considered as important as these other iconic and world famous sites”.
And in the spirit of time travellers, the children imagined themselves in 30 years’ time and also what Saltaire would look like in the future. Then they wrote a postcard ‘back to themselves’ about their journey.
The best postcards will receive a prize donated by the Visitor Information Centre and they will be awarded by chairman of Saltaire Traders’ Association David Ford.
