The long-time organist at St Mary’s Church in Riddlesden has died at the age of 72.

Roger Lane (pictured), who taught science at Oakbank School for 25 years, had lived in Riddlesden for more than four decades.

Mr Lane’s widow, Pat, paid tribute to Manorlands, which cared for her husband after he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

A collection at Mr Lund’s funeral raised £1,200 for the hospice.

Mr Lane was born in Warwickshire, and moved from Wiltshire to Riddlesden with his wife in 1972. He had learned to play the organ at the Royal Military College at Shrivenham, and soon after arriving in Riddlesden began playing at the church.

Mr Lane taught chemistry at Oakbank School, going on to become head of science before retiring in 1998.

He is survived by Pat, the children Sarah and Nick and granddaughter Emily.
