Take one practical joke, add a wife, an amorous tenor, an ambitious maid, an ambiguous Russian Prince, a mysterious Hungarian Countess and a drunken jailer, mix together, then sit back and enjoy the “delightful insanity” of comic opera Die Fledermaus.
Overflowing with infectious melodies of Vienna’s ‘waltz king’ Johann Strauss including Laughing Song and the memorable chorus Champagne, the show is performed by All Souls Amateur Operatic Society next month.
The society has teamed up with students from Huddersfield University to create costumes for the production. Ballgowns designed by Emily Spreadborough and Charlotte Neave will be worn by leading ladies Amy Ellison and Jessica Butterfield, playing Rosalinda and Adele.
Die Fledermaus runs at Halifax Playhouse from April 8 to 12 at 7.15pm, with a Saturday matinee at 2.15pm. Tickets are on (01484) 721617.
