Bradford Bulls are warned to file annual return

Bradford Telegraph and Argus: Robbie Hunter-Paul Robbie Hunter-Paul

Bradford Bulls’ new owners have been warned they must file the company’s overdue annual return or the business faces being struck off.

OK Bulls, which runs the Super League club, was due to file its first annual return – a document which provides a snapshot of vital company information – before September 27.

Business registration body Companies House says the deadline was missed and it sent a letter on November 12 warning it must file the requested details within ten days.

But yesterday, a spokesman confirmed it had still not received the information, adding: “Within the next ten days we will put a notice in the [London] Gazette to see if there are any objections to us striking off the company. They will then have three months to respond.”

When contacted by the Telegraph & Argus last night, Bulls’ chief executive Robbie Hunter-Paul said the club’s directors Mark Moore, Andrew Calvert and Ian Watt would file the annual return, which is more than two months late.

“It will be tonight or first thing tomorrow morning,” he said.

Asked why there had been a delay, Mr Hunter-Paul said at the time of the annual return the company’s shares had been in the name of former owner, Bradford restaurant boss Omar Khan, and previous general manager and owner Ryan Whitcut.

Mr Khan stepped down from the club on Wednesday, September 25 – two days before the annual return was due. Mr Whitcut left last month after it emerged he would fail the Rugby Football League’s fit and proper person test.

“The transfer of shares is still ongoing with Omar,” Mr Hunter-Paul added.

However, he insisted that would not delay them filing the annual return, which he said has had no impact on the club trading.

Earlier this month, the club’s new directors revealed the club is facing a fresh financial crisis and must make £400,000 of savings across the business over the next 12 months to survive.

A number of cutbacks last week saw staff redundancies, wage reductions based on hours worked and overall budget cuts.

Companies House says a business must file an annual return within a year and 28 days of its incorporation. The document must include details such as the details of the company’s directors, shareholdings, the nature of the business and its registered office.

With my passing interest and desire for all sport in Bradford to do well I have found the issue of Company returns rather interesting to say the least. A search with Companies House for around £11 confirms there is only one shareholder in OK Bulls, Omar Gulzar Khan.
Perhaps this is why the returns have not been filed as it would appear the new "owners" are probably not!

same old same old.

Omar allegedly handed this club over on Sept 25 so here we are almost 3 months later and the report has still not been filed.

Just for once it would be nice to have the club in the hands of someone that had a passion for rugby or knew wtf they were doing.

No trading figures are disclosed in an annual return. We will find out who actually owns the club though.

So the T&A confirm what has been spoken about for months on these comment sections.

The date of the annual return is prior to the sale of the club and Omar quiting as director so should be a pretty simply one and probably still won't reveal what the current ownership of the club is.

Anyone can file an annual return, all you need is the company code which most pass on to their accountants and these things can be filed in a matter of minutes online at companies house website. There really is no excuse for it being outstanding after several warning letters, many of which will have had to be signed by the directors as part of the process of warning the company.

There is still over 3 months before the company will be struck off, but as it stands it hardly gives any confidence in the running of it. After all Whitcut had already had the company on a winding up order through an "admin error", or so we were told.

What does this tell us, this taken from Companies House, that the following are THE current Directors?

Current Directors and Secretaries
Current Officer Name Appointed
Mr Andrew Mark Calvert 16-10-2013
Mr Ian David Watt 09-10-2013
Mr Mark Moore 26-09-2013

This for Bradford Bulls 2014
Mr Andrew Calvert 12-11-2013
Mr Ian Watt 12-11-2013
Mr Mark Moore 12-11-2013

What does this tell us? No doubt someone out there knows the answer.

My way of looking at it is this,

1) OK is no longer a Director,
2) Companies House are AWARE of the change.
3) Companies House awaiting forms from previous owners, which like someone said easy to do online.

Now should the current board fill that in or should have been done by OK.

Right Bradford Bulls 2014, I feel that the OK BULLS are going to be wound up in favour of BB 2014.

Hi Rabtid

CoHo are aware of change in directors, but they aren't aware of who the shareholders are. None of us are. That's the other reason for the annual return.

+ CoHo aren't awaiting forms from the previous owners. They're awaiting forms from the company itself. It's incumbent on the current management.

This is my personal favourite quote of the thread by someone who has disappeared off the face of the earth. Btw no one wants the Bulls to go under, it's just annoying getting slated for having a different view from the in crowd on here, which is looking more increasingly like the right view.

You never truly get up-to-date shareholder information from Companies House, they will only reveal shareholders according to the last information they had. 'Omar Khan as sole shareholder' will have come from the initial setup of the company. If & when the annual return goes in we'll know the shareholders as at August 2013. Might be the same, might not.

The directors register is a bit different - you have to inform Companies House of any changes as and when they happen. It looks like this HAS been kept up to date.

All those other websites CompanyCheck, DueDil etc just gather public info from Companies House and present it nicely.

I emailed them when it was 1 month overdue imploring them to do it & warning of the consequences (striking-off notice, potential stop on bank accounts, creditors & HMRC shouting for debts). There must be a reason why it's not been done but what can we do about it?

When you Bulls fans next get in the company of Robbie H Paul ask him if he will contact Mr Tony Mole British Speedway and clarify the situation with regards to the desire of a 'vast number' of speedway fans for the return of speedway to Odsal (and stock cars too). As I see all revenue streams need to be exploited and promoting speedway and stocks at Odsal can only be in everyones interests including the Bulls. Mr Mole has apparently tried to have dialogue with RHP but this does not appear to have been reciprocated by RHP.

Why is Khan taking Whitcut to court if he is now no longer part of the Bulls as the RFL ruled he wasn't fit and proper.
Why is Moore being chased by Khan but not the other two? Did they buy their stake from Moore?
To many unknowns, why would anyone sign a deal, sponsorship, buy a season ticket, etc with so many unknowns.

The fans don’t actually need answers. It is just the handful of people who can’t live without being on here all day that insist they are told everything.

The 5000 ticket holders who don’t read this clap-trap or even come on here couldn't give a **** who has how many shares or what coloured underwear they are wearing as long as a team runs out next month and they can buy shirts etc. and support them.

Please don’t think that the few who come on here all day represent “the fans” because you don’t! You represent yourselves in a daily slagging off competition trying to get one over everyone else. The first poster said it would start at lunch. It started in the next post actually.

The club will eventually be saved and financially supported by the loyal fans who buy tickets and turn up each game and cheer the lads on – not by a handful on here. The people who really matter to the club don't read this or even come on here as they have better things to do with their lives. You may not like this but it is true.

What "vast number" of speedway fans? Whenever I have seen it on TV it looks like the crowd would be measured in hundreds and not thousands. I think the problem is probably the cost of getting Odsal up to scratch for speedway requirements. After getting there fingers seriously burned with an ill fated pop concert I don't think anybody connected with Odsal will be looking seriously at the investment required for speedway.

I thought about this as I walked into the fans' forum. I suspect that the support posts for the Coral stand are just too close for safety. Shame as I love speedway and think it would be great to make a return.

Well that was a fun day. Nothing like an accounts based story to really get everyone worked up. Usual phrases "head in sand", "end in tears","keep on dreaming" and the Viking song. Even speedway got a mention!!

I said the insults would start around lunchtime. They started much sooner. I got it so very, badly, wrong and I think i should sincerely apologise to axelf1963 before he makes up a song about me. His lyrical dexterity is amazing. He's like the new Bob Dylan. Wonder if he has written the music to his Viking song yet. Anyway It looks like they're all tucked up in their beds now ready for another day of mud slinging tomorrow
