Three men have now been charged with murder, and a fourth is to be charged, in the case of alleged acid attack victim Barry Selby, it was revealed yesterday.

Co-defendants Lee Calvert, 22, Joseph Lowther, 21, and 28-year-old Robert Woodhead appeared before the Recorder of Bradford, Judge Roger Thomas QC, at Bradford Crown Court yesterday.

Calvert, of Stirling Crescent, Holme Wood; Lowther, of Copgrove Road, Holme Wood; and Woodhead, of Fred’s Place, Tyersal, Bradford; listened to the 20-minute proceedings via a video link from Leeds Prison.

Calvert had already been charged with the murder of Mr Selby, while his co-accused had been charged with possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life and possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear, which related to an incident in Farway, Holme Wood, on the evening of Sunday, October 13, when damage was caused to a house.

Yesterday, prosecutor Andrew Stubbs QC told the court that Lowther had now been charged with murder and Calvert with the firearms offences.

Mr Stubbs said: “We now have before the court Calvert and Lowther for the murder and firearms offences.

“Woodhead is before the court for the firearms offences. It is the Crown’s intention to charge him with murder. That will take place as soon as the arrangements can be made.”

Mr Stubbs said a fourth man would be appearing before magistrates.

Minutes later, Andrew Feather, 23, of Crook Farm caravan park, Glen Road, Baildon, made a one-minute appearance before Bradford and Keighley Magistrates Court.

Feather, tall and slim, clean shaven, with short brown hair, and wearing a red patterned casual top and grey tracksuit bottoms, smirked in the dock as he was remanded in custody by District Judge Susan Bouch to appear at Bradford Crown Court on Friday.

The court heard Feather was facing indictable only charges of murder, possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life and possessing a firearm.

Calvert, Lowther and Woodhead were further remanded in custody by Judge Thomas, who said a new trial date for the end of May had been pencilled in. A further hearing will take place on December 20.

Mr Selby, 50, died several days after suffering 50 per cent acid burns to his body and a gunshot wound to his leg in an incident at his home in Rayleigh Street, East Bowling, Bradford, in the early hours of Monday, October 14.
