Fears have been voiced about a planned cut in opening hours at the district’s household waste recycling centres.

Bradford Council is proposing to shut each site – including the centres in Royd Ings Avenue, Keighley, and at Sugden End, Cross Roads – two days a week.

And an hour would be slashed from the opening times on each of the other days.

The move is part of plans to chop £115 million from its budget during the next three years. Coun Rebecca Poulsen, whose Worth Valley ward includes Sugden End, previously led a campaign to save the site from closure when it faced the axe.

She said this week she could “live with” the proposed two-days-a-week closure, provided information about which centres are open when is properly publicised.

The council said a survey of usage at each centre had shown periods of low activity every day and variations throughout the week.

It said at least four sites would be open each day and no-one would face more than a 20-minute drive to reach one.
