An inquest into the killing of a four-year-old Bradford boy who was starved to death by his alcoholic mother was due to be opened today.
Amanda Hutton, 43, was jailed for 15 years this month after she was found guilty by a jury at Bradford Crown Court of the manslaughter of Hamzah Khan and of the neglect of five more of her children.
Hamzah’s mummified body was discovered in a travel cot in his mother’s bedroom by police in September 2011 – almost two years after he had died.
Acting Bradford Coroner Professor Paul Marks was presiding over today’s inquest in Bradford at which Hamzah’s remains were expected to released to his family for burial. The proceedings were then due to be adjourned sine die.
A serious case review, an independent investigation into Hamzah’s death, is continuing.
