A Bradford PCSO has gone on film to highlight homes that are at an increased risk of burglary.

As part of a West Yorkshire Police’s It Only Takes A Minute anti-burglary campaign, PCSO Lauren Needham took to the streets of the city to offer advice to residents on how they can improve their home security.

She was filmed highlighting the way that burglars look at homes and try to exploit what they might see as weaknesses in home security.

PCSO Needham works for the Great Horton and Little Horton neighbourhood policing team.

The campaign is designed to make people aware that it only takes a minute to lock doors and windows, and that a burglar could steal belongings from a house in that same time.

As well as filming the video, PCSO Needham also tweeted details of the type of security lapses burglars might look to prey on.

Inspector George Bardell, who leads the Great Horton and Little Horton NPT, said: “We want to make sure that our residents are doing what they can to keep their homes secure, and this video works perfectly as a reminder of the simple precautions we can all take to help prevent our homes from being burgled.

“It only takes a minute to lock your doors and windows or to move valuables out of view. It’s also a good idea to remove any garden tools or furniture left outside your house, as these can be used by a burglar to enter your property.

“Many insurance companies will not pay out if your home has been burgled while insecure. High value goods are costly to replace if stolen, and items such as phones and cameras often hold information with sentimental value, such as photos, which cannot be replaced.”
