A series of music, art and film events across venues in Bradford and Leeds gets underway this weekend.

The Recon Festival features local bands includingVibracathedral Orchestra, Hookworms, Cut Hands, Black Pus, Nope, Dean McPhee and Gang of Four.

Venues include the New Bradford Playhouse in Little Germany and Delius Arts and Cultural Centre on Great Horton Road and the Brudenell Social Club in Leeds.

Running until Sunday, September 29, the festival is aimed at showcasing the local music scene and inspiring new collaborations.

The University of Bradford’s Fellow in Music, Chris Hladowski, said: “The events we have been organising through M@BU (Music at Bradford University) and the Recon festival have provided a great opportunity to bring attention to a style of music often labelled as ‘world’ or Asian music, namely Qawwali music, which is performed and enjoyed by many people in and around Bradford.”
