A new ‘pop-up cinema’ – part of a project run by Cine Yorkshire to show popular films in community locations –- has opened in the district.

Cine Yorkshire’s autumn season of pop-up cinema screenings features more than 100 screenings at 40 venues, from village halls and community centres to cathedrals and stately homes, across the region.

Highlights include films from Cine Yorkshire’s Made in Yorkshire season, such as Calendar Girls, Brassed Off and Lad: A Yorkshire Story, as well as box office hits such as Skyfall, Les Miserables and Quartet and children’s favourites Frankenweenie and Wreck It Ralph.

Rachel McWatt, Cine Yorkshire project manager, said: “We are delighted to welcome six new venues on board for this season, including Glusburn Community and Arts Centre “We work with a fantastic team of promoters and volunteers and the programme reflects the diversity of our audience, featuring a broad selection of recent and classic film releases, with something to delight all ages.’’ Cine Yorkshire is a Rural Cinema Initiative supported by the British Film Institute, aimed at bringing high quality digital cinema and live event experiences to communities under-served by cinema provision. In 2010 the project, delivered by a consortium led by the National Media Museum, rural community arts company Blaize and Screen Yorkshire, was established to serve North Yorkshire, recognised as the largest geographical area in the UK with access to the fewest cinema screens.
