A new 3G football pitch is set to open at Thornton Recreation Centre, Bradford, on Monday.

The 3G pitches are much safer as they contain softer infill made from recycled rubber and are better at absorbing impact.

The new artificial pitch has been selected by the FA as one of the venues for the West Riding County under 21 league. Games will be played there on Wednesdays from 8pm in October.

The pitch is available for league games, junior teams and 11-a-side rentals. Opening times will be 6pm to 10pm Monday to Friday; 9am to 6pm on Saturdays and 9am to 4pm Sundays. The pitch can also be used for hockey and netball.

Councillor Andrew Thorn-ton, Bradford Council’s executive member for Sport and Leisure, said: “We are delighted to announce the opening of this state of the art playing surface at Thornton Recreation Centre. It will provide better playing conditions and hopefully ensure that many more people can safely enjoy the facilities.”

Anyone wanting to book the pitch should call (01274) 436021.
