What has been described as a breathtaking piece of aerial theatre takes place in City Park next month as part of an autumn programme of events.

Combining dramatic film and visuals with aerial performances, As The World Tipped confronts environmental issues and has been called ‘a real-life disaster movie in the sky’.

It is the brainchild of Nigel Jamieson, one of the world’s leading creators of outdoor theatre and director of pieces created for Sydney Olympics.

The show is being staged by a 17-strong team from Wired Aerial Theatre with music by Patrick Dineen.

Bradford is the final 2013 date of a 37-show tour which has included London, Manchester and Sydney.

As The World Tipped will be performed at 7pm on Saturday, October 5, in City Park.

Mr Jamieson said: “We are delighted to have been given the opportunity to stage As The World Tipped in Bradford’s highly acclaimed City Park and look forward to performing in such a cutting-edge public space.

“A big passion in my life in recent times has been to use theatre to explore one of those issues that confronts all of us, and all of the species and creatures that we share this planet with – the issue of climate change.

“This idea of a surface that tipped seemed a really fantastic metaphor for that predicament.”

Meanwhile, a light and water installation, called A Mirrored Pool of Thought, takes place from dusk to 11pm from Wednesday, October 9, to Sunday, October 13.

Councillor Susan Hinchcliffe, portfolio holder for employment, skills and culture, said: “Our events programme in City Park has attracted thousands of people into Bradford over the summer.

“We plan to build on this momentum by staging high quality events like As The World Tipped in autumn.

“We will continue to work hard to support the district’s economic development.”

On Saturday, September 28, Positive Bradford Day takes place at City Park, celebrating all that is positive about Bradford from 11am to 6pm, while Reflections takes place on Saturday, October 19, from 10am to 6.30pm.

Local artists will use dance, music and street theatre to provide entertainment while the Bradford Science Festival kicks off with events at City Park on the same day from 10am to 4pm.
