Long service awards have been presented to staff at Bradford Teaching Hospitals who have clocked up 1,910 years’ service between them.

Sixty three members of Foundation Trust staff, who have dedicated their careers to supporting and caring for patients across the district, were honoured at a special awards ceremony at the Sovereign Lecture Theatre at Bradford Royal Infirmary.

Staff including doctors, nurses, support and administration, were presented with certificates, a special NHS badge and vouchers to commemorate their 30 years’ service to the NHS.

One member of staff, assistant general manager for non-clinical support services, Shirley Hannan, picked up her 50 years’ service award.

She joined the NHS in 1963 when she began her nurse training at St Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing, immediately after completing a cadet nurse course at Leeds Road Fever Hospital.

She graduated to a staff nurse position on the acute medical wards at St Luke’s before serving as a ward sister between 1967–1984, and then she joined the non-clinical department.

The long service awards were presented to Shirley and her colleagues by Foundation Trust chief executive Bryan Millar, support by director of human resources, Pat Campbell.

“I would like to say congratulations to all our members of staff who are being honoured tonight for their dedication to the NHS here in Bradford,” said Mr Millar.

“A special mention must go to Shirley Hannan for her unstinting loyalty and efforts throughout her 50 years’ work.”
