Outline plans to build 46 houses in the grounds of Malsis School, Glusburn, near Keighley, have been lodged with Craven District Council.
Two applications include outline plans for five homes on a yard to the west of the school and 41 on land to the east.
The school, which has submitted the application with Chartree Developments, said, when it first announced its plans in July, that it needed to sell the land to safeguard the school’s future.
Details submitted to the council include a “private and confidential financial appraisal” on why the development is needed.
Although the plans were announced in the summer, they have only now been validated by the council.
