Police are appealing for witnesses after a man in his 90s was left with “potentially life-threatening injuries” after being hit by a car.
The accident at Steeton, near Keighley, shortly before 10.50am yesterday, left the man with serious leg injuries and a head injury, and led to the road being closed for over two hours.
It happened at the junction of Chapel Road and Skipton Road, and a rapid response vehicle and two ambulances were sent to the scene.
They found the elderly man with serious injuries and took him to Airedale Hospital for treatment.
A police spokesman said: “We were called to reports of a male who had been knocked down by a car. He was elderly and looks to have suffered injuries to his leg and head.”
Skipton Road was closed both ways between the entrance to Airedale Hospital and the traffic lights at Steeton Road until around 1.30pm for police to investigate the incident.
The closure led to lengthy delays for motorists travelling between Keighley and Cross Hills.
The vehicle involved in the incident was a silver Ford Mondeo. The driver was uninjured.
Anyone who witnessed the collision has been asked to call the Western Area Roads Policing Unit on 101.
