Bradford Festival Choral Society has started its new season and is on the lookout for new singers.
“Join us and unleash your voice!” says musical director Tom Leech. “We are a friendly, welcoming choir who believe in the potential of our members. Our engaging and productive rehearsals focus on developing your voice, not just learning notes.”
Most of the choir’s concerts focus on classical choral music, with the programming aimed at combining the familiar with new and more unusual material.
“We’ve sung flamenco with Eduardo Niebla, jazz with Will Todd and even given a flashmob performance of Bruno Mars!” says Tom.
New members don’t need musical experience; Tom says rehearsals are designed to develop singers musically and vocally.
“Our members range from people who’ve not sung since primary school to music graduates, with every level of experience in between,” says Tom. “Some familiarity with music reading is useful, but not essential Anyone who would like to give it a go is asked to attend rehearsals and see if they enjoy it. For those wishing to take it further, the choir offers an informal ‘voice check’ providing tips on developing your singing.
Later in the season, BFCS will be running a competition for school choirs, with the winning choir performing at the Bradford Christmas Concert at St George’s Hall on December 21.
