A three-day food and drink festival dubbed Bingley’s Taste of Yorkshire and Beyond will dominate the town centre starting tomorrow.

Initially planned as a beer and cider celebration, the event has mushroomed into a full-on food lovers’ festival including a large marquee in the market square showcasing the talents of regional brewers.

There will be delicacies on offer from a market organised by Bradford Council, which will run from 9am until 6pm on each of the days, selling food to compliment the drink.

And a hog roast will be among the temptations on each of the days.

Traders from the town’s Wednesday, Friday and Saturday market will also be offering their usual products on the market over the whole weekend.

Visitors will be entertained by performances from local musicians and Bingley Dance School, the Bradford Bulls cheerleaders will be showing off their skills and children will be kept entertained by a host of rides and entertainment.

And on Saturday there will also be a classic car show.

Running alongside the festival on Saturday will be an arts and craft fair in Bingley Arts Centre and a new home-brewed beer competition at the Off The Tap pub. There will also be a ‘Bingley Ale Trail’ leaflet highlighting what’s on offer in the town.

This new festival is being organised in partnership with Bradford Council and the new Library Tap pub as well as other local businesses and the Bingley Chamber of Trade and Commerce.

Bob Parker, Bradford Council’s town centre manager for Bingley, said: “Bingley is a great place to be.

“With the success of this year’s Agricultural Show and the recent Bingley Music Live event, I’m sure this festival will be widely supported and we hope to plan similar events in the future if this proves to be a success.”

Richard Ambler, of Bradford Council’s market services, said: “Our existing Bingley Market traders are looking forward to the event and working together with local businesses to promote Bingley and the regular local market.”

Councillor John Pennington (Con, Bingley) said this was proof of the need for good organisation.

“This is what we want a town centre manager for,” he said.

“It’s good to bring visitors in from outside and show them what a nice town it is.

“And what could be better hospitality than to welcome them with food and drink.”
