Police are appealing for a Good Samaritan, who went to the aid of a sex attack victim, to contact them.

Detectives believe the man, who prevented a worse assault on the woman taking place, may have vital clues to the identity of the attacker.

The 30-year-old woman was subjected to an attempted rape in a supermarket car park in the early hours of the morning. She was attacked behind the Co-op, in Bolton Road, Eccleshill, Bradford, between 3am and 4am on Thursday, September 5.

The victim bravely kicked out at the man and managed to flee on foot round the corner, where a man was using a cash machine.

Detective Inspector Rick Partis, of Airedale and North Bradford CID, said the man had disturbed the suspect, who drove out of the car park and away from the scene in a silver Audi A3 or similar car.

Det Insp Partis said: “She has been extremely brave in fighting off the attack and the noise she has made has alerted the Good Samaritan, which has undoubtedly stopped a far more serious attack taking place.

“He removed her from the scene and drove her to a place of safety.

“He will have seen the vehicle the suspect was in and may be able to help in identifying him, so we would ask him to come forward.”

The Good Samaritan is thought to be a white man, in his 40s, and was driving a silver Ford Mondeo.

The suspect is described as a tall, black man, aged 25 to 30, stocky, and bald. He was wearing dark blue jeans with a buckled belt and a dark blue woollen jumper with a red logo.

Det Insp Partis said: “The actions of the Samaritan in this case helped to prevent an awful crime taking place. It’s vital we speak to this man as he could hold vital evidence.”

Police are checking CCTV and are also hoping to compile an efit of the suspect.
