A new Guide Dogs puppy is learning his first skills in Otley.

Rex, a black Labrador, will receive early training from volunteer puppy walker Cath Goulborn over the next 12 months.

Guide Dogs puppies begin their training at about six weeks old and stay with their walker for about a year before going on to ‘school’ to learn specialised skills.

Walking the puppies helps them get used to crowds, cars, and buses to ensure they become well behaved, friendly and responsive to their handler.

To volunteer to puppy walk or fundraise for Guide Dogs - the charity spends nearly £50,000 on the training and care of each dog – visit guidedogs.org.co.uk or call 0118 983 5555.
