The stages are set, the tickets are sold and the bands ready to kick-off the seventh Bingley Music Live today.

The festival gets under way with 80s icons The Human League headlining with hits such as Don’t You Want Me and Fascination.

The band were busy rehearsing yesterday and posted a message on their Facebook page which said: “Hopefully the weather will stay good and we look forward to seeing some of you there among the crowd.”

Across the three-day event 43 acts will play including The Cribs, Primal Scream and Chic featuring Nile Rodgers who will all rock the main stage.

Event manager Andrew Wood said: “I think it’s a good show. Ticket sales have been steady, but in the last couple of weeks they have been flying out of the door, which is fab.

“It’s really good value for money with the entertainment that’s on offer.”

Mr Wood said the show would be close to a sell-out, though tickets are on sale at the event, but at a slightly higher price to cover the cost of a ticket office.

Winners of the Emerging Talent Competition 2013 will also be playing after being chosen following a battle of local bands.

“Last year we had a third stage, which we’ve removed due to residents’ concerns about noise. That was predominately local acts – we always like to support the local music scene,” Mr Wood said.

Yesterday the week-long set-up was coming to an end with lighting and PA systems being rigged.

“It’s going to look mint down here as well, which is tremendous. We’ve got two new stages which look the part and it’s going to be heaving with people,” Mr Wood said.

The festival has always attracted revellers in fancy dress and this year the organisers, Bradford Council, have planned a themed pirate day on Sunday. Blackbeard’s Tea Party will be hosted in front of the main stage and it is hoped thousands of people will dress the part.
