An amateur rugby league club has converted its efforts on the pitch into cash for charity.

Silsden Park Rangers staged a battle between the captain’s ‘Young Guns’, the eventual victors, and the coach’s ‘Old Boys’.

Proceeds from the annual encounter, held in tribute to late club officials and former players, are donated to charitable causes. And this year Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice, Manorlands, was the beneficiary. The £1,100 proceeds included £500 from husband and wife Granville and Mary Christine Horner, ex-smokers who saved the cash accumulated through not buying cigarettes.
