Taxi drivers keen to be ambassadors for Bradford launched their smart new shirt and tie uniform at the city’s Interchange yesterday lunchtime.

Some 70 Bradford Hackney Carriage drivers have chosen the new look as a way of welcoming visitors with a re-assuring and professional image.

Mohammed M Khan, who manages the Town Taxis group of independent drivers, said: “Our taxis are an economical and trustworthy way to travel and we wanted to distinguish ourselves and be ambassadors doing the best for Bradford.

“It was an idea which has worked because of the voluntary support of the drivers and also from the Council. We hope it will be a great success.”

Councillor Imran Hussain, responsible for taxis on Bradford Council, was at the launch which included a giant cake and free food for passing travellers.

He said: “This is a great initiative which shows how people are so passionate about doing their jobs and also the passion they have for Bradford and the district.”
