A homeless Slovakian who burgled a woman’s ground floor flat while she was at work has apologised.

Stefan Sivak, 21, dumped his dirty clothes in a wardrobe and left a used condom when he got into the flat in Oak Avenue, Manningham, Bradford.

Bradford Crown Court heard earlier this month how Sivak ate cereal while in the flat and left his DNA on an energy drink bottle he had taken from the fridge.

Sivak stole a laptop, camera, phone and jewellery which he sold to buy food.

After he pleaded guilty to burglary, Judge Peter Benson adjourned sentence on Sivak to see if any any accommodation could be found for him.

But when Sivak was brought back in custody yesterday the judge heard there was no address available for him either through any community accommodation or with family or friends.

The judge was told that Sivak had spent 55 days in custody on remand and Judge Benson said he was prepared to suspend his six-month jail term for two years.

With the assistance of an interpreter Sivak said he wanted to say he was very sorry for what he had done and he would happily do work for the complainant if he could.

‘’I will never do something like this again,’’ he added.
