Police have re-issued an appeal for witnesses to a crash at Morrisons in Idle that saw a woman seriously injured as she loaded shopping into her car.

Police said the victim’s condition had deteriorated in hospital since last week’s collision.

Tracey Askham was putting her shopping into her car when another vehicle collided with it, trapping at the rear of her car and seriously injuring her.

The collision happened in the car park of the Morrisons supermarket on Bradford Road, Idle, on Wednesday last week at 7pm.

Mrs Askham, 47, of Bradford, is believed to have suffered a heart attack at the scene as well as head and leg injuries. Police said her condition had worsened.

A spokesman said: “She remains in a critical condition.”

Following the collision a police spokesman told the Telegraph & Argus that the car involved was driven down the ramp towards a bend into the main car park.

He said: “It collided with a parked car while the lady was putting her shopping in the car.”

Mrs Askham was freed by fire crews from Idle fire station and then taken to Leeds General Infirmary where she was to be kept under observation overnight.

Police said her family had been informed of the incident.

Her daughter also appealed to a Good Samaritan, who helped her critically injured mum after the accident, to come forward.

Chantelle Aleksander said she and her family wanted to thank the mystery man who went to the aid of her mother.

Her daughter said a man, who was nearby, saw the accident and went to help.

She said: “We have been told he was nearby and saw what happened.

“He went straight to my mum and tried to move the vehicle by himself. After trying to alleviate the situation he stayed with my mother, comforting her until help arrived.

“We are grateful beyond words for what he did and want to thank him, but we have no idea who he is.

“We would like him to come forward so we can personally thank him for what he did. He can contact the police.”

A police spokesman said they had a number of witnesses to the incident, but urged more to come forward with any information they may have.

Any witnesses to the collision are asked to call West Yorkshire Police on 101.
