A £9,000 drugs seizure from a car boot in central Bradford uncovered a plot by four men to supply Class A drugs, a jury has been told.

Police swooped on a blue VW Passat parked on Rydal Road, Frizinghall, on the evening of Friday, November 16 last year and found a green Asda carrier bag containing almost a kilo of heroin and smaller amounts of cocaine and crack cocaine.

On trial at Bradford Crown Court accused of conspiracy to supply Class A drugs, between November 15 and 20 last year, are Umear Hussain, 24, of Preston Place, Halifax, and Adnan Chaudhry, 31, of Doris Road, Birmingham.

Both deny the offence.

Prosecutor Tom Storey told the jury yesterday that two more men, Sheraz Ali and Mohammed Khan, had pleaded guilty to the offence.

Mr Storey said others were also involved in the plot.

He said Chaudhry lived at Ferndale Grove, Frizinghall, Bradford, at the time of the alleged offence.

He was brought to the ground by plain clothes officers when he opened the boot of his Passat after a silver VW Jetta had pulled up next to him.

Mr Storey said the driver of the Jetta was Sheraz Ali and he sped off on to Barkerend Road and was lost from sight.

In the Passat’s boot was a carrier bag containing a cardboard box of plastic packages. The drugs haul included 932 grams of heroin, 12 grams of cocaine and 295 grams of crack cocaine. There were also latex gloves.

Mr Storey said the value of the heroin would probably have been made greater by “cutting” it with other substances to make it go further when it was split into street deals.

Chaudhry told the police he had been threatened to store the drugs. His defence was that he acted under duress.

Mr Storey said Hussain’s fingerprints were found on a bag. He was arrested on December 15 and said he must have handled it before it was used to hold drugs.

He denied any knowledge of the haul, saying it was nothing to do with him.

Mr Storey said phone evidence linked all four men between November 14 and 16.

The trial continues.
