Shipley Salvation Army had a Mad (Make a Difference) Week of community action in Shipley and Baildon.
Bradford councillor Susan Hinchcliffe, Major Mike Harris, Jack Gomersall and Sam Phillips encouraged people at the launch to “do their bit” to help people in need.
Volunteers helped out by digging gardens, painting walls, picking litter, packing shopping bags, washing cars, unpacking moving crates and visiting residential homes.
They also served at least 500 cafe meals and contacted 700 people directly.
At a fun day, Shipley MP Philip Davies judged the fancy dress competition and had sponges thrown at him in the stocks. More than 300 visitors enjoyed music from Shipley Salvation Army’s brass band and local singer/song-writer John Froud.
Fun Day leader Julie Wright said: “Stars Stage School, based at the Salvation Army’s premises, danced the afternoon away and the sun shone on.”
