A renowned turf research company is opening the doors of its Bingley headquarters to greenkeepers, groundsmen and other industry professionals.

The Sports Turf Research Institute, on the St Ives estate at Harden, will give an insight into the world of sportsturf management looking at trends, issues and the future of the industry during the free event.

After the success of last year’s event, which saw 250 turf professionals from all over the world descend on Bingley, STRI Research 2013 aims to present sportsturf managers with the chance to experience research into sports turf products, techniques and technology.

STRI has been involved in many projects, including development of pitches for the European championships football tournament in Ukraine and Poland in 2012, and providing advice to the groundsmen at the Wimbledon tennis courts.

Demonstrations will take place across seven turf management areas during the event, which runs on Wednesday and Thursday, September 18 and 19.

Topics include nutritional management, disease management and plant health, growing turf in difficult conditions, as well as technology and machinery and turf stabilisation.

Ruth Mann, who manages the research trials for STRI, said: “The 2012 event was a great success and the feedback from all attendees was very positive. We’ve taken all the elements that worked so well last year and introduced some new demonstrations to ensure that this event is the best one yet.

“All of our delegates will be based in small groups to allow maximum interaction and question time with STRI’s advisory staff, we really want them to get the benefit of the expertise available.”

“STRI is proud to work closely in partnership with a variety of companies who are at the forefront of sportsturf research and management. The STRI Research team is looking forward to showcasing the array of groundbreaking products, technology and techniques.”

A number of STRI’s research partners are supporting this year’s event including Aquatrols & Farmura, Bayer, Everris & Syngenta, R&K Kensett, Melspring & Sherriff Amenity and Rigby Taylor.

Head of sales and marketing Carolyn Beadsmoore said: “This is the third year we’ve hosted the event now and in that time it has established itself as one of the ‘must attend’ events in the industry calendar.

“As the two days are already filling up rapidly, sportsturf professionals wishing to attend should book soon to guarantee a place.”

The deadline for booking is Friday, September 6. Invitations have been sent out to 6,000 sports clubs. To make a booking or for information contact (01274) 565131 or email info@stri.co.uk.
