A former Bradford Dukes speedway star has announced his retirement from the sport, just a few months shy of his 41st birthday.
Joe Screen, who formed part of the trio alongside Gary Havelock and Mark Loram that brought the Dukes their first Elite League title in 1997, was competing in his 25th year as a professional.
The Chesterfield-born rider signed for the Dukes prior to the 1994 season for a then-record fee.
A World under-21 champion, British champion and England international, Screen was affectionately known as Shaggy. He is the only Bradford rider to match the achievement of the legendary Arthur Wright in posting an 11-point average for the club.
