Redundancies and changes to salaries are in the pipeline as one of the district’s housing associations makes changes to the way it operates.

Accent Group, which is based on the Acorn Park Industrial Estate in Shipley, said the changes would result in “new and improved customer service” but could not confirm how many people would be affected.

Accent owns and manages more than 19,000 homes across the country, including 3,500 in Bradford and Yorkshire.

A 72-year-old tenant of a sheltered housing complex run by the group said he had been told that managers would have to reapply for their jobs and take a pay cut, but a spokesman for the company said that was not quite accurate.

She said: “We are currently changing how our service is delivered to our residents in the future. The changes will bring about a new and improved customer service, but the inevitable end result with changes such as these is that some roles, responsibilities and salaries will change.

“In response to managers ‘applying for their own jobs’, this is not completely true as many of the jobs are different in the new structure and need different skills. Just like any business going through such changes, we need to make sure we have the right people in the right jobs, so we are currently conducting interviews across the organisation.

“As there are in any company at any time, people are leaving the organisation independently to pursue new careers, so we expect the actual number of redundancies to be small.

“We do not have an exact figure, and we will not have until the changes are completed and all staff are in their new roles in October.

“The number of senior managers has reduced, but our services to residents will improve as a result, as we have put more resources into our customer-facing teams, specifically investing in our tenancy support services, and we will have new services and more specialist staff to support our residents.

“Housing associations across the UK are facing uncertain times, but this is a positive move for Accent and one that will help us secure our business and our future, and make sure we can continue providing quality homes and services for our residents.”
