A sister let her brother live with her to help sort his life out – and he repaid her by punching her in the face and banging her head against a wall, a court heard today.
Sarfraz Hussain, 20, then grappled with his brother-in-law when he tried to help his wife, Bradford Crown Court was told.
Judge John Potter told Hussain: “Your sister and her husband had the good grace to allow you to live in their home to try to help you sort your life out. The way you repaid them was disgraceful.”
Prosecutor Ken Green said the attack took place at the home of Hussain’s sister, Simran Chouduary, in Heather Grove, Highfields, Keighley.
They were alone and there was an argument because Simran suspected he was drunk.
Mr Green said he punched her then pushed her against a wall, striking her head.
Hussain, of Long Lee Lane, Long Lee, Keighley, admitted affray.
Ian Hudson, representing Hussain, said his client was receiving treatment for a mental illlness. Judge Potter gave him a community order, with 100 hours’ unpaid community work and a restraining order not to contact his sister or brother-in-law.
