Idle and Thackley Theatre Group is turning to a much-loved sitcom for its next production.

The Vicar of Dibley is being staged following permission from writer Richard Curtis, who created the classic comedy. A donation will be made to Comic Relief.

Expect to see the show’s familiar characters, including dippy Alice the loyal verger and the assorted Dibley villagers who make the vicar’s life a colourful one.

Starring Dawn French, the sitcom ran from 1994 to 2007. It follows the antics of the first female vicar in a fictional Oxfordshire village, following the changes in the Church of England that allowed the ordination of women two decades ago.

The Vicar of Dibley runs at Idle and Thackley Little Theatre, Malt Shovel Yard, Westfield Lane, Idle, from September 12-14 at 7.30pm. For tickets, ring (01274) 411080 or 07950 578920.
