Bradford West MP George Galloway last night insisted he has no link to charity Viva Palestina, which is being investigated by a regulator after failing to file accounts.

A spokesman for Mr Galloway said he had never been a “trustee, manager or even tea boy” of Viva Palestina after the Charity Commission opened a statutory inquiry into its operations.

The organisation was set up by a group including Mr Galloway in 2009 to provide aid in the wake of the Israeli ground incursion into Gaza and has since run convoys carrying supplies into the area, including a number from the Bradford area.

However, according to the Commission’s website, it has never lodged any financial records.

A spokesman for Mr Galloway said claimed the MP has nothing to do with the charity, adding: “He never had any role, apart from founding it.”

A spokesman for the Charity Commission confirmed it currently has a statutory inquiry open into Viva Palestina.

No-one from Viva Palestina was available for comment yesterday.
