Shadow Culture Minister Dan Jarvis (left) will today visit the National Media Museum in Bradford to discuss the challenges it is facing in the current economic climate.

The Labour MP’s visit follows the Telegraph & Argus Stop The Cut campaign, which saw 40,000 residents join celebrities and academics rally together to save the museum from closure amid funding cuts.

The Science Museum Group had indicated that one of its three museums in the north – also including the National Rail Museum in York and the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester – could have to close if its funding was slashed.

It will now remain open, but fears remain over the long-term sustainability of museums and galleries.

Speaking before his visit, Mr Jarvis said: “The National Media Museum is a jewel in Bradford’s crown and its importance to the city and its economy is huge. I want to provide all the support I can to make sure we never have to face such a situation again.”
