A petition to try to save Keighley’s Territorial Army base has accumulated more than 300 signatures in two weeks.
Keighley Drill Hall has been recommended for closure as part of changes to Britain’s Army reserve. The building is home to C Company of 4th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment.
The petition was started by Keighley town councillor Andrea Walker and a local Royal British Legion member. It is being supported by Keighley deputy mayor Councillor Lionel Lockley.
Coun Walker said she was very pleased with the number of people who had signed up to back the campaign. She said petition sheets were still available at Wild’s Cafe, in Towngate, Keighley Bus Station and Keighley Civic Centre.
“We’ve had a lot of people say that we need the Drill Hall to be kept open, both for the youth and our veterans,” she said.
