Thornton’s South Square Gallery is offering artists an exhibition opportunity by contributing to a proposed group project.
Called My Head is an Animal, the project looks at issues of gender, emerging sexuality and rites of passage, embracing the beauty and the horror of dream, myth and fairy tale, the futility of being and the crumbling of joy and innocence.
Diverse historical and contemporary influences from ‘high’ and ‘low’ culture, including the work of the Surrealists, the Aesthetic Movement and popular music and culture, will be looked for.
To this end, South Square Gallery seeks existing work and proposals for new work from artists to feature in this group exhibition. Travel expenses will be covered and there will be a fee available, subject to funding.
The exhibition will run from December 7 to January 26. Applicants should send a statement. CV, images of their work and details of proposed work including dimensions and presentation requirements to: My Head is an Animal, South Square Gallery, South Square, Thornton BD13 3LD, or e-mail to c.nadal@southsquarecentre.co.uk.
