An Ilkley ranger travelled to Holyrood Palace earlier this month to receive her Gold Duke of Edinburgh award in the presence of the Earl of Wessex.

Naomi Warrenberg, 18, a member of the 1st Ilkley (Parish Church) Rangers, was presented with her certificate by Scottish international rugby player, Chris Paterson.

As part of her activities for the award, she completed four day walking expeditions, volunteered at the Ilkley Rainbow Unit, learned how to knit, and volunteered at a residential week run by the local Riding for the Disabled group.

She said: “I especially enjoyed learning the skill of knitting as it has allowed me to develop my creative talents and I continue to enjoy and develop my knitting skills today”.

Naomi is also working towards her Queen’s Guide Award, the highest award that members of Girlguiding's Senior Section can achieve.

The Duke of Edinburgh award scheme has three entry levels, bronze, silver and gold, and can be started at the age of 14.
