The owner of a French restaurant travelled to the country to compete in a gruelling cycle race – but came up against a hitch.
Simon Gueller (pictured centre), owner of The Box Tree Restaurant in Ilkley, took part in L’Etape du Tour in Annecy, an event designed to give amateurs a taste of the Tour de France, on Saturday.
After months of training and preparation, Mr Gueller and a team of fellow cycling enthusiasts from Yorkshire arrived in France, only to find at baggage collection that most of their bikes were still back in Manchester.
They managed to hire bikes just in time for the departure early the following morning.
Despite 37C heat and the unfamiliar bicycles, all the Yorkshire team riders finished within the time limit.
