A volunteer who has been helping people with sight loss in Bradford for more than ten years has been nominated for a national award.

Jim Illingworth, 78, from Wyke, is in the running for an honour from the Macular Society’s Awards for Excellence.

He has been involved with the Macular Society’s Bradford support group since it started 12 years ago but has been leading it for the last six.

Age-related macular degeneration is the most common cause of sight loss in the UK.

Mr Illingworth said: “I do the job on a voluntary basis, but I don’t expect any recognition. The group being successful is my recognition. The running of the group is a joint effort along with support from a reliable committee.”

The group meets on the third Thursday of the month from 2pm to 3.30pm at The Resource Centre, 124 Morley Street, Bradford.
