Sibling rivalry will be put to the test as a brother and sister go head-to-head to raise cash for their mother’s dog charity.
Vicki and Gary Sykes are supporting the Freedom of Spirit Trust for border collies based in Eldwick, which was founded by mum Barbara.
Vicki, 38, is running the Leeds 10k tomorrow whilst Gary, 36, hopes to arrive in time to complete the Monte Carlo or Bust Banger Rally the same day. Gary, who lives near Retford, is travelling from Calais to Monte Carlo in a £150 Renault Megane which he and friend Maui Smelt are driving under the team name No Direction.
Gary, who owns a furniture business, said: “It’s great to get some money in for mum’s charity, but will be a jolly boys trip too.”
Vicki, who runs the farm, a trekking centre and trains dogs for the charity, has been hampered in recent weeks – her horse knocked a gate onto her ankle, she then got a viral infection and injured her knee. She said: “My brother was going to do the 10k with me, but now he gets drive round Europe, and I get to run round Leeds!”
The charity, which costs around £4,000 a month to run, is based at Mainline Border Collie Centre, Golcar Farm, Spring Lane, and cares for up to 50 dogs.
