The illustrator of The Gruffalo was in Bradford for the opening of an exhibition following the journey of popular children’s books from page to screen.

Called Moving Stories, the exhibition looks at how classics such as The Borrowers, Alice In Wonderland and Peter Pan, and modern favourites like Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr Fox and David Walliams’s Mr Stink are adapted for film and TV.

The National Media Museum has teamed up with Seven Stories, National Centre for Children’s Books, on the family exhibition, which was unveiled on Wednesday by Axel Sheffler, best known for illustrating popular children’s book The Gruffalo, one of the titles featured.

Moving Stories features items such as original manuscripts, storyboards and sketches relating to characters from books and their on-screen counterparts, such as Snow White, Shrek, Peter Pan and The Gruffalo.

The exhibition looks at the special techniques of storytelling in books, film and television, using insider knowledge from production companies and publishers.
