Opticians in Bradford will today raise cash for a heart charity after an 18-year-old colleague suffered a cardiac arrest on the shop floor.
Six members of staff at Specsavers’ on Darley Street will wear pedometers for the day, asking customers to sponsor them and to guess the distance they will walk for the chance to win a prize, in support of Cardiac Risk in the Young.
Walk to the Beat events will be held at different stores after the teenage member of staff in Hull collapsed at work.
Pete Rooke, store director of Darley Street Specsavers, said: “We always feel that we should support deserving charities. As a local business serving the community we feel it’s our duty to also get the local people involved in our efforts.
“Cardiac Risk in the Young is an incredible charity so we are thrilled to be supporting them. We hope our Walk to the Beat event is a fantastic success.”
The sponsor who guesses the closest distance will win a designer pair of frames or sunglasses from the Specsavers store.
