An Otley photographer has launched a new exhibition created by young people at Yorkshire Sculpture Park at Wakefield.

Asha Munn, photographer and art therapist, has developed a project entitled ‘Breathing Space’ which provides a safe space for young people to reach their full potential through art.

The ‘I Made That From Scratch’ exhibition is the culmination of this three year project which has seen Asha work with eight vulnerable people from across Yorkshire for the past 12 months.

Working with the young people one day a week Asha helped them explore a variety of artistic techniques, methods of display, installation and audience experience, allowing them gain insight into various art professions.

Asha said: “Breathing Space builds on previous collaborative work between myself and Yorkshire Sculpture Park and our shared belief in both the benefits of and connection between art, the landscape and wellbeing when working with young people.

" The work was created within ‘breathing space’ specifically for this exhibition.

"The young people have grown so much and developed not only as people but also as young artists. Many of them now see a career in art or at least have a desire to continue to practice in some way.”

Breathing Space is supported by Leeds College of Art and Design and Victim Support and funded by Arts Council Yorkshire and The Liz and Terry Bramall Foundation.

‘I Made That From Scratch’: Breathing Space exhibition will be open daily 11am – 3pm, until 4 August 4 at The Boat House, Lower Lake, Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
