People are being urged to use only the water they need because of the current hot spell.
Demand for water in Yorkshire has risen by 7.7 per cent from about 1.3billion litres a day to 1.4billion as temperatures have risen in the past week.
Bradford-based Yorkshire Water said that while stocks remain relatively healthy for this time of year, it is reiterating its year-round message to its customers.
The average British person uses 160 litres of water per day – 100 litres more than two generations ago. In Germany daily individual consumption levels are 127 litres per day.
Matt Thompson, of Yorkshire Water, said: “To make it easier for customers to save water – and money – we’re offering free water-saving packs from our website, as well as visiting cities and towns across the region over the next couple of months where we'll be giving away all manner of useful water saving gadgets.”
Yorkshire water says turning the tap off when brushing teeth, taking a shorter shower and fitting a flushsaver in the toilet cistern will all save water.
